## Role Overview:

As a Founding CPA, you will play a pivotal role in shaping Afternoon’s early operations, processes, and customer experience around taxes, bookkeeping & compliance. You’ll be an operator at first but we hope you will be able to grow/manage the accounting function as our company scales. You’ll collaborate directly with the founders & our customers to establish the foundation upon which the company grows.

## Key Responsibilities:

1. Drive and execute on daily/weekly bookkeeping need, support monthly closes of customers and package their end-of-year tax returns following US GAAP principles.
2. Drive the strategic direction and design of accounting-related features in our product, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and UX.
3. Provide deep expertise in GAAP accounting principles, tax regulations, and compliance requirements to guide product development.
4. Collaborate closely with software engineers, product managers, and UX/UI designers to create seamless, intuitive user experiences.
5. Develop and maintain internal financial processes, including financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and analysis.
6. Serve as the internal subject-matter expert on evolving accounting standards, regulatory updates, and best practices.
7. Act as an advocate for users, integrating customer feedback into product enhancements and feature prioritization.

## Qualifications:

1. CPA license (active) with a minimum of 5+ years of accounting experience, ideally within tech startups, SaaS companies, or fast-paced environments.
2. Strong technical expertise in financial accounting, tax compliance, and GAAP.
3. Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with an entrepreneurial mindset and high degree of flexibility.
4. Ability to clearly communicate complex accounting concepts to technical and non-technical team members.
5. Passion for leveraging technology to improve accounting processes and outcomes.
6. Experience or strong interest in product management and software development processes.
