The Role

Bankrate is rebuilding itself with AI at the center. The AI Transformation Office exists to make that real, not as a slide deck but as running software. We're looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer to embed directly with our business teams and ship the AI systems that change how Bankrate operates. Your clients are internal: Human Resources, Marketing, and Commercial. Your job is to walk into their workflows, find the highest-leverage problems, and build the agents, tools, and integrations that solve them. You report to the Head of AI Transformation. This is an individual-contributor role for a builder, not a manager.

This is not a role for people who want to build software for fun. It's for people who want to solve real business problems and fundamentally change how a company operates. Demos don't count. Prototypes that die in a sandbox don't count. What counts is the workflow running on Monday morning, the business outcome it drives, and the team that can't imagine going back.

What You’ll Do:

  1. Embed and ship. Sit with a business team, learn how they actually work, and build the AI system that changes it. You own the problem end to end: architecture, code, deploy, and the relationship with the people who use what you build. Nothing gets handed off. A few problems in flight to give you a sense of the work:
    • Autonomous Customer Support Agents that resolve tier-1 issues on their own and escalate to humans only where judgment is required.
    • Automated AI Training Pathways that give every Bankrate employee a personalized route to fluency, built once and scaled across the company.
    • Paid Media Optimization Agents that watch spend, test creative, and reallocate budget faster than any human team could.
  2. Build net-new and integrate. Some problems need software that doesn't exist yet. Others need AI wired into the systems we already run. You'll do both, and you'll know which one the moment calls for.
  3. Move fast and fail faster. You prototype in hours, put things in front of real users in days, and kill what isn't working without ego. Speed is the strategy. The landscape shifts under you and you keep up.
  4. Operate with the full agentic toolkit. Agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex), AI APIs, vector databases, prototyping platforms (v0, Lovable, Replit), and automation layers (Zapier, n8n). You reach for whatever gives you leverage, including tools that shipped last week.
  5. Design agents that hold up in production. Reliable, auditable, and keeping humans in the loop where they belong. The work has to run when you're not in the room.
  6. Compound the wins. What you learn on one engagement becomes the pattern every other engagement inherits. You make the whole office better, not just your own project.

What We’re Looking For:

  1. 2 to 8 years building and shipping. You've put production software in front of real users and owned the consequences. Where you trained matters less than what you've shipped.
  2. AI-native to the core. You already build with agents, AI tools, and APIs as a default, not an experiment. This is how you work, not something you're curious about.
  3. Problem-solver first. You're energized by a messy business problem, not a clean spec. You want to change how a company operates, and code is your means, not the point.
  4. High agency, high urgency. You don't wait for permission or perfect requirements. You find the leverage, build, ship, and iterate.
  5. Comfortable in ambiguity. You get productive in unfamiliar systems and domains without much hand-holding, and you bring structure where there's none.
  6. A real collaborator. You work shoulder to shoulder with non-technical business teams, translate their problems into systems, and bring them along so what you build actually gets used.

Skills Required:

  • 2 to 8 years building and shipping production software
  • Experience building production AI systems and working with agents, AI tools, and APIs
  • Own end-to-end delivery: architecture, coding, deployment, and stakeholder relationships
  • Must be able to work Eastern Standard Time hours
  • Familiarity with agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex), vector databases, prototyping platforms (v0, Lovable, Replit), and automation layers (Zapier, n8n)
  • High agency, urgency, strong problem-solving, comfort with ambiguity, and collaborative communication with non-technical teams
  • East Coast preference / ability to hybrid in New York or Charlotte (preferred)
